PODCAST: Sitting down with employment specialist Emma Young

A brand new part of my job as a peer coach is to work alongside a real-deal employment specialist, and I’m super excited about it.  This will only bolster the services that patients will be receiving in the way of various guidance that can be applied to their own lives.  Her name is Emma Young — she’s a true sweetheart.  Her title is self-explanatory, too.  She is with us to essentially assist her clients to find suitable and stable employment.  I can honestly attest to the fact that I wish services like these were available back when I was first getting sober.
A couple of days ago, I sat down with Emma to discuss her own professional background, and to ask about the position she is working  with us currently.  This was a wonderfully colorful conversation, so I hope you can all take the time to check it out!  Finally, the work is most certainly not done.  Maine really is only one of a handful of states to include opioid health home programs, employment specialists, peer recovery coaches, and the like.  My goal is to continue working at projects like this blog to help with promoting such a treatment modality, as we’ve found that it is beneficial not solely for the person seeking to recover, but the person, or people, helping him or her to do it, too!
